2006 Hugh Jackman Rounding The Movie Musical Market On
'Carousel' By Andrew Hartman,
MovieMusicals.net Status: Confirmed
Fox 2000 and Seed Productions' Hugh
Jackman and John Palermo are mounting a remake of the classic 1956 movie musical
'Carousel.' Jackman will star as Billy Bigelow - a role he's already familiar
with, having sung the part in a 2002 Carnegie Hall concert honoring Rodgers
& Hammerstein.
'Carousel' is one of many projects
Jackman has on his plate, at the moment. Aside from the remaining movies he's
featured in to arrive in theatres in 2006, namely 'Scoop,' 'Happy Feet,' 'The
Prestige,' 'The Fountain,' and 'Flushed Away;' Jackman is also attached to
several planned movie musical projects, including an untitled Baz Luhrmann flick
with Nicole Kidman, 'Guys & Dolls,' 'The Boy From Oz,' 'If You Could See Me
Now,' 'Sunset Boulevard,' and 'The Full Monty.'
Jackman signed a deal with Disney in
January 2005 to develop three movie musicals for the big screen. Fox, however,
has the rights to 'Carousel.' Variety previously announced Jackman would
be doing 'If You Could See Me Now' (an original musical) and 'Guys & Dolls'
for Disney.
